Films on Demand is a video streaming resource available to you through the SWC library.  It allows you to view and present a wide range of videos in class.  After setting up an account, instructors can create playlists, have access to captions, select clips of videos for their playlists, and can embed clips, films and playlists into their blackboard site. The library offers introductory tutorials and the site offers a range of instruction as well.






Art 21 is an excellent resource of interviews with contemporary artists.  All Art 21 segments are available online (with 30 second ads) and in DVD format in the Slide Library.  With each featured artist, the site has added images of their work, various videos, and texts.  This information can be accessed through the tabs above their bio, which are labelled respectively.





Ubu Web is a web-based resource for avant-garde material, and has an impressive collection of film and video work.  Among the artists included are:  Marcel Duchamp,  Cindy Sherman, Yayoi Kusama,  Rebecca Horn, and many others.









Smarthistory is a growing database of texts, video, quizzes, and other instructor resources developed by the Khan Academy in conjunction with art historians. The videos range from discussions of works and important themes to explanations of processes and material in situ. Most videos are under 10 minutes long and have closed captions.





Open Culture groups together material that can be found online for educational and personal use, including: books, courses, audio files and films.  This link takes you directly to their free movie list which includes the following directors: Derek Jarman, Andrei Tarkovsky and Jan Svankmajer, among others.






This Ted Talks Playlist includes presentations that deals with a wide range of issues in art and design.  They  usually run between 10 to 30 min.  Presenters include: Alwar Balasubramaniam, Natalie Jeremijenko, Vik Muniz and Shirin Neshat, among others There are also more specific Ted Talks playlists that deal specifically with more precise themes that fall under this, such as artists, craftmanship, and film.
